The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Richard Herpin created Divine Sensual for Oriflame in 2007. The fragrance features star anise as a prominent note, one that announces itself early in the wear and remains present throughout the composition. This choice gives the fragrance a distinctive character that sets it apart from more conventional fruity-floral blends. The result is a scent that carries weight and intention in its construction, offering something beyond the typical formula. The careful balance of ingredients creates an experience that feels deliberate and cohesive, with each element supporting the others in a way that suggests real craft behind the final product.
Divine Sensual brings together fruity-gourmand and powdery-floral elements in a way that feels intentional and cohesive. Raspberry and peach open bright and accessible, creating an inviting entrance. The star anise arrives with its licorice warmth, pulling the composition in a different direction and adding an unexpected dimension. Gardenia and violet lean into the powdery territory, adding body and a soft, classic floral quality that grounds the sweetness without overwhelming it.
The evolution
The opening hits first, bright raspberry, tart grapefruit, and then the star anise, its aniseed quality arriving as a distinctive presence. For about twenty minutes the composition navigates between fruity sweetness and the clean bite of star anise. The hand-off happens when the gardenia steps forward, creamy and tropical, and the violet dusts everything into softness. The rose is present but restrained, adding floral depth without competing for attention. By the second hour the vanilla begins its work, warming against the skin, the sandalwood adding a quiet woody note that keeps the sweetness from becoming overwhelming. The drydown is where the fragrance settles into its final form, close and warm, the kind of scent that someone standing nearby will notice.
Cultural impact
Divine Sensual occupies a space in the fruity-gourmand-powdery category that has continued to appeal to many wearers. The star anise note is a noticeable element, its licorice warmth threading through the composition and giving it a distinctive quality. The blend of fruit and powdery florals creates something that feels warm and approachable. Just apply and go.
