Forgiven Outrage

What makes this structure unusual is the hand-off between phases. The cardamom doesn't fade gradually, it yields abruptly to the florals, which in turn defer to the woody heart. Most fragrances blur their transitions. Forgiven Outrage announces each act. Cypriol oil (nagarmotha) anchors the heart with an earthy, almost medicinal quality that keeps the florals from becoming precious. The frankincense in the base isn't decorative, it's the final word, warm and resinous and built to outlast everything before it.

The evolution

The opening hits in under a minute. Cardamom, bright and almost astringent, with ylang-ylang sitting underneath like a weighted blanket. Thirty minutes in, the freesia emerges and the whole thing shifts, still spicy, but textured now. The heart phase begins around the one-hour mark as guaiac wood and sandalwood arrive together, their warmth flattening the earlier sharpness. The frankincense doesn't appear until hour three, but when it does, it takes over. By hour five, the cardamom and florals are gone entirely. What remains is vetiver and frankincense, smoke and earth, close to the skin but unmistakable. On fabric, this lingers into the next day.
