The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Ojar creates contemporary unisex compositions that draw from traditional perfume culture. The house pairs frankincense and amber with modern materials in its Parisian laboratory, producing scents that feel both timeless and current. The approach combines heritage with restraint, favoring depth over spectacle. Wood Whisper arrived in 2022 as part of Ojar's Sandalwood Collection, designed by perfumer Jordi Fernández. Cashmere and sandalwood share qualities that made them natural partners in this composition. Fernández layered plum and rose at the opening, giving the fragrance an initial brightness, then let the woody heart take over as the top notes faded.
The pairing of cashmere wood and sandalwood in the heart was deliberate. Cashmere wood, a modern aromatic material, brings a soft, almost velvety texture to compositions. Sandalwood, with its creamy warmth, complements that texture naturally, creating a woody heart that feels accessible rather than austere. Fernández added violet to bridge the gap between the fruity opening and the deeper drydown, using the note's powdery quality to smooth transitions. Musk and ambergris anchor the base, their animalic warmth providing contrast to the sweeter elements. Vanilla and white amber round out the drydown, their soft, lingering qualities completing a fragrance that moves from bright opening to quiet finish.
The evolution
Rose and plum create the opening act, a luminous fruity-floral combination that establishes the fragrance's initial character. Plum brings depth, a jammy sweetness that grounds the rose's Petal-like freshness. Within minutes, the top notes begin to thin, and cashmere wood emerges as the dominant material. Sandalwood joins it, the two woody notes weaving together to form a heart that feels creamy and soft rather than sharp or resinous. Violet appears here, a powdery floral that adds dimension without competing with the woods. As the heart settles, the drydown introduces musk and ambergris, animalic notes that give the fragrance its skin-like warmth. Vanilla and white amber follow, their sweet, soft qualities smoothing the transition and creating a lingering base that clings to skin for hours.
Cultural impact
Wood Whisper appeals to wearers who prefer warmth to projection, intimacy to impact. The fragrance occupies a quiet corner of the niche market, not a statement piece, but a personal one. The cashmere-sandalwood pairing represents a distinctive approach within the collection, offering a balance of softness and depth that feels both refined and accessible. It speaks to those who want a fragrance that works quietly and close to the skin.
