Heritage
A house, in its own words
Sheikha Hind Bahwan, a prominent Omani entrepreneur, launched Ojar after years of studying the region’s aromatic traditions. The founder’s family has long supported cultural projects in Oman, and she applied that background to build a perfume label that honors local rituals. Early development focused on sourcing high‑grade hojari frankincense from the Dhofar mountains, a material celebrated for its purity. The brand introduced its first fragrance line in the early 2020s, positioning each scent as a narrative of Omani geography and craftsmanship. In 2021 Ojar released Infusion Velours, a scent that quickly became a reference point for the house’s blend of Eastern richness and Western structure. The following year the line expanded with Wood Whisper and a refined version of Infusion Velours, signaling the brand’s commitment to iterative creativity. 2023 saw the debut of Encens Cuivre, a composition that highlighted copper‑toned incense notes, while 2024 added Solar Flair, a bright, sun‑kissed fragrance that broadened the portfolio’s seasonal range. Throughout its growth, Ojar secured placement in specialty retailers such as Jovoy in Paris and partnered with regional distributors to reach collectors across the Middle East and Europe. The brand’s trajectory reflects a deliberate pacing: each launch builds on prior research, deepening the dialogue between Omani scent heritage and contemporary perfumery practice. Ojar’s creative vision centers on storytelling through scent. The house treats each fragrance as a chapter in the larger tale of Omani culture, from the incense‑laden souks of Muscat to the wind‑swept cliffs of the Empty Quarter. The brand values authenticity, insisting that every ingredient trace its origin to a specific terroir, whether that is frankincense harvested by hand in Dhofar or sandalwood sourced from sustainable plantations in India. Ojar avoids generic claims of innovation; instead it documents the methods used to preserve the natural character of each raw material. The label also embraces a modest approach to marketing, allowing the perfume itself to generate conversation among enthusiasts. By balancing reverence for tradition with a willingness to experiment, Ojar seeks to create scents that feel both familiar and surprising, inviting wearers to explore the nuanced layers of Middle Eastern olfactory art.
