Heritage
A house, in its own words
The house of Amouage was born in 1983, established at the behest of Sultan Qaboos of Oman. The commission was deliberate: to create a perfume house worthy of Arabian perfumery traditions, one that could stand alongside the great French houses while remaining rooted in its own heritage. Today, Amouage operates under Oman Perfumery LLC, a subsidiary of the Omani SABCO Group. The brand draws from Oman's position along ancient incense trade routes, where frankincense and myrrh have moved through the desert for thousands of years. This geography and history inform every collection the house releases, including the Essences line that arrived as a new chapter in their perfumery offerings.
Amouage describes itself as a High Perfumery house, a label that signals ambition beyond conventional luxury fragrance. The brand exists to preserve and celebrate Oman's rich perfumery heritage, translating ancient ingredients into contemporary expressions. Where many houses emphasize innovation above all, Amouage balances tradition with modern craft. The Essences collection demonstrates this approach: new entries arrive after extended maceration periods, suggesting patience as a virtue rather than an obstacle. The house works with master perfumers who understand both Western perfumery techniques and the specific character of Arabian ingredients.
