Heritage
A house, in its own words
Artal Perfumes traces its origins to a partnership between three young men from Oman, described in the brand's own communications as inspired and initiative-driven. Before establishing the label in their home country, the founders gained early experience in the perfume trade while living in the United Kingdom, then returned to the Gulf to build a house rooted in Omani identity. The company entered the fragrance market in February 2021, debuting with Marque de Rubis, Elixir de Esmeralda, and Lavish Lazuli in its first year. Subsequent annual releases (Amethyste Glace and An Ambery Dawn in 2022, Forbidden Rose in 2023, and The Oud Route in 2024) established a steady cadence of one to two launches per year, allowing the small team to refine its creative direction while expanding into international niche fragrance circles. The brand positions Oman itself, historically a centre of frankincense trade and home to ancient aromatic routes, as the conceptual starting point for its work. Artal's creative vision draws a throughline between Oman's long association with aromatic materials and a broader, outward-looking sensibility. The founders frame their approach as rooted in place (the frankincense groves and trading heritage of Oman) while also drawing on global perfumery, naming compositions after gemstones (Rubis, Amethyste, Lazuli, Esmeralda) alongside more narrative titles such as The Oud Route and Forbidden Rose. The house works with perfumer Shadi Samra, whose involvement shapes a style that pairs Arabian raw materials with European-style structure. Rather than chasing volume, the founders have spoken about thoughtful design and attention to detail as guiding principles, releasing a deliberately compact catalogue of seven fragrances across four years. The result is a label that reads as a personal artistic statement from a small Omani team, interested equally in cultural continuity and in contributing to contemporary niche perfumery.
