Shadi Samra
Shadi Samra entered the perfume world in the early 2000s, fresh from a chemistry program in Beirut. He cut his teeth at a boutique lab, learning to balance raw materials under the watchful eye of regional masters. By 2008 he earned his first commission for a niche house, and the scent quickly earned a spot on a bestseller list. The breakthrough arrived in 2014 when Fragrance Du Bois released New York Intense, a rose‑bergamot opening that captured the energy of a metropolis. The blend earned him a place on the Fragrance Oscars judging panel, a role he has held eight times. In 2017 he launched Scentify Perfume Creations, a studio that produces private‑label lines for emerging brands. Over the past two decades he has authored more than a hundred formulas, mentored young noses, and served on the Fragrance Foundation Arabia board. His career blends commercial savvy with a relentless curiosity for scent architecture.

How Shadi composes
Shadi favors a modular approach, building fragrances layer by layer. He starts with a robust base—often oud, sandalwood, or amber—then adds a heart of florals or spices that echo the brief’s narrative. Top notes receive a burst of freshness, typically bergamot, grapefruit, or pink pepper, to capture attention. He frequently employs natural extracts, but he does not shy away from synthetics that add precision. A hallmark of his style is the use of long‑lasting fixatives that grant the perfume a “beast mode” longevity on skin. He also likes to embed a subtle metallic edge, a nod to his early experiments with mineral accords. The result feels both polished and adventurous, inviting the wearer to explore each facet throughout the day.
Philosophy
What drives Shadi
Shadi believes that perfume should read like a personal signature, not a fleeting trend. He treats each brief as a puzzle, stripping away jargon to find the emotion the client wants to wear. Ingredients become characters in a dialogue; a single accord can shift a mood in an instant. He respects tradition but refuses to let heritage dictate limits. Instead, he experiments with unexpected pairings—amber fused with citrus, leather softened by powdery florals—to reveal hidden facets of familiar notes. The driving force behind his work is the desire to make scent an extension of memory, a tactile reminder of moments that matter.
