    Master Perfumer

    Daniel Josier

Daniel Josier entered the world of scent after graduating from ISIPCA in 1997. He spent his first professional year at Haarman & Reimer in Grasse, where he earned the title of master perfumer in 1998. A chemistry background gave him a precise approach to formulation, and early collaborations with Jean‑Claude Ellena sharpened his artistic instincts. Over the next decade he supplied essences for luxury houses such as Sisley, Versace, Cartier, Valentino, Gucci and Prada, often working behind the scenes on flagship projects. In 2011 he launched the eponymous Daniel Josier line, followed by niche houses Renier Perfumes and Comporta. The move allowed him to translate his laboratory rigor into personal creations that echo his Spanish heritage and his love for Mediterranean light. Today he balances brand work, bespoke olfactory marketing for events, and teaching aspiring noses, positioning himself as a bridge between classic French technique and contemporary storytelling.

    The signature

    How Daniel composes

Josier favors a transparent structure that lets the top notes speak before the heart settles. He frequently starts with bright citrus—bergamot, mandarin, or bitter orange—then layers aromatic herbs such as rosemary, sage or thyme. Mid‑notes often include jasmine, lavender or rose, providing a floral bridge that never overwhelms. The base usually rests on cedar, sandalwood, or amber, giving the scent a lingering, tactile finish. He prefers natural extracts when they meet his purity standards, but he does not shy away from synthetics that add precision or longevity. His compositions often reveal a subtle shift after several hours, rewarding the wearer with evolving nuance.

    Philosophy

    What drives Daniel

Josier believes that fragrance should record a moment as clearly as a photograph. He treats each accord as a memory, choosing ingredients that trigger a specific feeling rather than a vague impression. His Spanish roots inspire a focus on sun‑kissed citrus, aromatic herbs and warm woods, while his scientific training pushes him to test stability and balance rigorously. He often says that a perfume earns its place when it can be worn repeatedly without losing its emotional impact. This blend of emotion and exactness guides every bottle he crafts, whether for a global fashion house or a private wedding commission.
