Heritage
A house, in its own words
Pedro Simões Dias established Comporta Perfumes in 2017, naming the house after the Portuguese coastal region that served as his primary inspiration. The founder describes himself as a scent evangelist, suggesting an evangelistic commitment to fragrance as a medium for experience and memory. Prior to launching the brand, Dias had already been collecting and wearing niche perfumes for years, reportedly amassing hundreds of bottles and identifying a signature scent in 2005 created by a young perfumer who would later become well known in niche circles. This early exposure shaped his understanding of what distinguished artisanal perfumery from mainstream offerings. The founding of Comporta Perfumes marked his transition from enthusiast to creator, driven by a desire to bottle the particular quality of light, air, and landscape he associated with Comporta. Early releases from 2017 included Areia Salgada (Portuguese for salty sand) and Muda, establishing the brand's interest in place-specific atmospherics. The house continued releasing new work through 2018 and beyond, with Ocaso (sunset) and the Mosquito series appearing that year. By 2021, the brand had released Bravo, and by 2023 it marked an anniversary with the limited edition 50. More recent work includes Señor Dias and Dapper in 2025, the latter suggesting a more formal, tailored direction for the house.
Comporta Perfumes operates from the premise that fragrance is narrative, a way of inscribing experience onto skin and carrying it through the day. The brand's tagline, Storytelling on your skin, distills this philosophy into a single directive. Dias has spoken about fragrance as a vector for memory and place, suggesting that each composition should evoke something specific rather than generic sensation. The house draws inspiration from lifestyle, travel, and experiences rooted in Europe, though its aesthetic leans heavily toward the Portuguese landscape that gave the brand its name. Rather than chasing trends in the niche market, Comporta Perfumes appears to work according to an internal logic driven by the founder's preferences and the landscapes he wishes to translate. This suggests a philosophy prioritizing authenticity over commercial calculation, a commitment to creating scents that satisfy a personal vision rather than predetermined market categories. The brand's social media presence reinforces this through imagery and captioning that emphasizes mood and atmosphere over technical fragrance notes or promotional messaging.
