Paulo de Moraes
Paulo de Moraes grew up amid the vibrant streets of São Paulo, where the scent of fresh coffee and tropical rain sparked his curiosity. He earned a technical degree in biochemistry at a campus in Campinas, learning to read molecules the way a poet reads verses. After a few years in a research lab, he swapped test tubes for aroma wheels, joining the Swiss house LUZI in 2016 as a senior perfumer. There he crafted QUEEN OF ROSE, a tribute to the iconic bloom, and CHOC ROULETTE, a playful nod to Brazil’s love of cocoa. His work quickly earned respect among peers, and he now balances laboratory precision with the spontaneity of his Latin‑American roots.

How Paulo composes
In the studio, Paulo favors natural extracts that retain their original character. He layers citrus zest with green herbaceous accords before anchoring the blend with amber, vanilla, or sandalwood. His technique often starts with a clear structural outline, then he adds nuance through micro‑drops of rare absolutes. He prefers transparent, sustainable sourcing and enjoys experimenting with Brazilian botanicals such as cumaru, andiroba, and maracuja. The result is a scent that feels both precise and warmly familiar.
Philosophy
What drives Paulo
Paulo treats each formula as a conversation between science and memory. He believes that a scent should anchor a feeling as firmly as a photograph captures a moment. His biochemistry background drives him to dissect ingredients, while his cultural heritage urges him to weave familiar aromas—cacao, tropical fruits, rainforest wood—into modern compositions. He pursues balance, letting bright top notes dissolve into deeper, lingering bases that invite the wearer to pause and reflect.
