The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Teide takes its name from a peak of volcanic stature, one whose presence on the horizon is impossible to ignore. Nous Parfums built this composition as part of its Shades Collection, positioning it as a passage into a different terrain. Teide reads as that passage: into heat, into the threshold where sweetness meets scorched earth, where the air itself seems to shimmer above the ground. Launched in 2024, it translates volcanic majesty into something wearable, a landscape rendered in cardamom, coconut, and a host of layered aromatics that feel drawn from magma and mineral rather than mere spice.
What sets Teide apart is the density of its top layer. Most fragrances ease you in, presenting one or two facets before unfolding the rest. This one opens with a dense stack of notes competing for the first inhale, bergamot brightness, strawberry sweetness, pineapple tartness, cumin's earthy bite, and the roasted depth of coffee, all arriving at once. The intent reads like olfactory chaos, but the composition tames it with a measured heart of oud, iris, and saffron that pulls the fruit back toward something serious.
The evolution
The first ten minutes are the loudest. Coffee and cardamom lead, with a quick sweetness from strawberry and pineapple that registers as almost confectionary, edged by cumin's warmth. Bergamot and orange try to brighten the corners but the spice wins. For the next hour, the heart takes over: iris softens the texture, jasmine and rose add a powdery floral register, while oud and sandalwood deepen the base. The shift is dramatic but smooth, going from fruit-forward and bright to dark, creamy, and meditative without a jarring break. By hour three, the drydown has settled into something quieter and more leathery, with frankincense and labdanum giving it a churchlike stillness. Vanilla and white musk warm the bottom, keeping it close to skin rather than broadcasting.
Cultural impact
Teide draws on a dense accord built from bergamot, cardamom, cinnamon, coffee, coconut, strawberry, pineapple, blackcurrant, orange, peach, apple, pink pepper, and cumin, a combination that pushes tropical fruit, warm baking spice, and roasted depth into a single composition. The result sits at the intersection of gourmand perfumery and oriental spice traditions, with the sweetness of edible-smelling notes braided against the earthy warmth of cardamom, cumin, and coffee.
