The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Nuit Andalouse translates as Andalusian Night, a reference to the passionate cultural atmosphere of southern Spain. Perfumer Cécile Zarokian created this 2013 white floral to capture that tension. The name promises something cinematic, and the composition delivers. Gardenia and ylang-ylang form a lush, creamy white floral heart, while Bulgarian rose adds a cooler, more crystalline floral note that brings balance. Vanilla and sandalwood warm the base, giving the fragrance depth and presence.
What makes Nuit Andalouse work is the restraint within abundance. Gardenia and ylang-ylang are materials that can overwhelm, they carry density, almost medicinal sweetness at their edges. The addition of Bulgarian rose to the heart adds a cooler, more crystalline floral note that acts as a counterweight. Amyl salicylate in the base adds a powdery facet that keeps the overall composition from becoming too heavy. It's a composition that knows when to pull back.
The evolution
The opening hits bright and green, violet lending an almost dewy quality to the orange blossom. For the first thirty minutes, it's surprisingly cool, gardenia announces itself but doesn't dominate yet. Then the ylang-ylang deepens, the Bulgarian rose softens into the composition, and what was crisp becomes languid. The drydown is where Nuit Andalouse earns its name: vanilla and sandalwood warm together, the amyl salicylate adding a soft powdery finish that lingers close to the skin for hours. The white florals evolve from crisp to creamy, the Bulgarian rose tempering the heavier notes throughout the wear.
Cultural impact
Nuit Andalouse draws its name and atmosphere from Andalusia, the southern region of Spain. The MDCI Parfums house approaches each fragrance as an artistic brief, and this one captures that spirit. Cécile Zarokian's composition balances density with restraint, using Bulgarian rose to cool heavier white florals. Rich gardenia and orange blossom form the heart, with Bulgarian rose adding a cooler, more crystalline floral note. The fragrance captures warmth and restraint, seduction and grace, all at once. The name promises something cinematic, and the composition delivers.
