The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Marrakech Imperial, founded in 2020, stands as Morocco's first haute parfumerie, weaving Atlas cedar, Moroccan rose and wild oud into modern niche scents that echo the city's imperial past. Named for the historic kasbahs that crown Marrakech's red-sand hills, Oud Kasbah Royal was conceived by perfumer Christian Carbonnel as an homage to the opulent traditions of Moroccan royal courts. The brief called for something that could capture the grandeur of those ancient halls while remaining wearable in contemporary settings.
The note pyramid reflects a philosophy of contrast and balance. The opening spices create immediate impact and draw the wearer in, while the amber-mimosa heart offers breathing room and emotional warmth. The oud-muskatka-vanilla base ensures longevity and creates a signature that lingers long after the initial application. Each layer serves a purpose: spice to intrigue, floral-amber to comfort, and oud to anchor the experience in Moroccan heritage.
The evolution
The fragrance begins its journey in the spice market, where coriander and cardamom create an immediate impression of warmth and exoticism. Davana adds a fleeting, almost wine-like quality that distinguishes this from more conventional spice openings. As the top notes recede, the composition shifts into its heart phase, where mimosa and amber introduce a surprising softness. Patchouli and cedarwood provide the structural backbone here, ensuring the transition from bright spice to warm heart feels deliberate rather than jarring. The final evolution brings oud forward, supported by musk and tonka bean, creating a drydown that speaks to centuries of perfumery tradition while remaining unmistakably modern in its execution.
Cultural impact
Since its 2024 debut, Oud Kasbah Royal has sparked conversation among niche enthusiasts for marrying a bright herbaceous opening with a deep, regal oud drydown. Its balanced spice‑amber heart makes it a favorite for evening gatherings, while the strong sillage ensures it stands out in crowded venues. Social buzz often highlights its ability to feel both modern and rooted in Moroccan heritage, cementing its status as a contemporary classic.
