The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Theseus was released in 2011, named for the mythological king who embodied the spirit of the hero's journey. Lorenzo Villoresi built the fragrance around that spirit of restless wandering, the idea that scent can carry you somewhere else entirely. The brief was clear: a fresh, radiant opening that suggests departure, warmth that accumulates over hours, and a drydown that lingers like a memory. The name isn't decoration. It's the fragrance's entire posture.
What makes Theseus interesting is the way it holds two registers at once. The top is bright, citrusy, almost effervescent, bergamot, green notes, a peppery lift that feels like morning light on water. But the heart is where it starts to earn its name. Vetiver anchors the composition, not as background but as structure. Jasmine and iris add a floral softness that could read delicate, except the leather and oud in the base won't let it. The tension between freshness and depth is the whole point. It smells like someone who packed light but brought back something heavy.
The evolution
The opening hits sharp and clean, citrus and nutmeg arrive together, with clary sage adding an herbal brightness that feels Mediterranean. That phase opens into a heart where vetiver and jasmine take over, softening the composition into something warmer and more complex. The florals don't announce themselves; they deepen the air around you. Then the base arrives quietly, settling close to the skin with leather and oud, amber and tonka bean adding warmth without sweetness. The drydown fades into a soft, resinous warmth that lingers like the memory of a place you've been but can't quite name.
Cultural impact
Theseus fits within Lorenzo Villoresi's established tradition of narrative-driven compositions, translating the heroic quest, conquest, wandering, and discovery into a wearable composition of citrus, herbs, resins, and warm woods. The fragrance manages that rare balance between being approachable and layered, with a sillage that suits someone who wants depth without announcement. It carries the weight of its namesake without ever becoming heavy-handed, offering instead a quiet, sustained presence that rewards attention over time.
