The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Lorenzo Pazzaglia built PAX in Fano, Italy, working outside the traditional fragrance industry for years before creating his own house. His background in the restaurant business shaped an approach to fragrance that prioritizes boldness and feeling over subtlety. Narcotix Citrus began as a deliberate question: what happens when you build an entire fragrance around citrus instead of using it as a fleeting opening? The name itself functions as a provocation, suggesting addiction rather than mere enjoyment. PAX crafts intense extrait de parfum concentrations, and Narcotix Citrus embodies that intensity from the very first spray.
The note philosophy in Narcotix Citrus reflects a specific belief about citrus: it should earn its place by doing something unexpected. Pineapple and yuzu do not serve as a light, refreshing prelude. They form the core identity of the fragrance, sustained through the heart and evolved into the base rather than evaporating. The pairing of tropical fruit with birch and juniper creates an unusual tension between freshness and smokiness. The ambergris and vanilla in the drydown serve to ground the brightness, preventing the composition from becoming purely summery. This makes the fragrance wearable across seasons in a way that purely citrus-focused scents rarely achieve.
The evolution
The journey starts with pineapple and yuzu taking center stage, backed by bergamot and blackcurrant that create a tart, addictive quality. As the citrus fades, the heart reveals itself through birch and juniper, bringing a smoky forest character that contrasts sharply with the bright opening. Rose and jasmine provide floral softness while elemi resin and patchouli anchor the composition in warmth and earthiness. The drydown marks a significant shift into ambergris and ambroxan territory, with bourbon vanilla and leather creating a rich, almost tactile finish. Cedarwood, oak, and oakmoss ensure the base remains dry and complex rather than simply sweet, while iso e super provides a smooth, enveloping quality that extends the wear significantly.
Cultural impact
Narcotix Citrus arrived at a moment when the fragrance market was split between ultra-niche austerity and mass-appeal safety. PAX, still a young house in 2022, positioned this fragrance as something in between, accessible enough for daily wear, distinctive enough to spark conversation. The name alone generated intrigue: Narcotix implies addiction, something that seizes attention, while Citrus reframes what a citrus fragrance can be. It's not the bright, forgettable citrus of summer counters. It's a citrus that wants to be remembered, worn, argued about. Enthusiasts have embraced it for its longevity and sillage, building a loyal following among those who appreciate bold, memorable citrus fragrances.
