The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Reign is one of four compositions in LEIƏR's Origin Collection, released in 2025. Conceived as a debut statement from the house, the scent was designed by perfumer Bérénice Watteau to work solo or layered. Its name carries the brief: regal without stiff, command without compromise. The composition reads like a quiet coronation. Blackcurrant and saffron blossom deliver fruit and spice at the gates, then incense lines the procession with a thread of smoke that curls through the opening rather than smothering the brighter notes beneath it. Gardenia, orange blossom, and ylang-ylang take the throne in the heart, their creamy white florals catching against the smoldering saffron and building a density that feels deliberate, not heavy.
Reign treats white florals with unusual discipline. Gardenia and orange blossom usually dominate a composition like this. Here they're bracketed by saffron and incense at the top, held in check by coumarin and tonka below. The result is a powdery floral amber that reads regal rather than heady, a balance that depends on Watteau's restraint more than on any single note's strength. Blackcurrant does quiet structural work too. Most powdery florals skip the fruit entirely. Here it adds just enough tartness at the opening to keep the incense from reading ecclesiastical.
The evolution
The first 30 minutes belong to blackcurrant and saffron, tart fruit cushioned by a savory, almost leathery spice. Incense threads through it all, more dry than smoky, closer to a church pew than a bonfire. Rose water softens the corners without turning the opening feminine. It's sharp and a little ceremonial, the kind of opening that asks where you're going tonight. Around the 45-minute mark the white florals wake. Brazilian gardenia leads, creamy and green, joined by orange blossom and a syrupy lick of ylang-ylang. Heliotrope adds its almond sweetness, and the composition tips into full powder. This is where Reign earns its name. The florals here are plush, lacquered, never airy. You're inside the flower, not standing near it. By hour three the base takes over. Tonka bean and coumarin lay down a vanilla-adjacent haze, warmed from beneath by amber and a quiet mutter of patchouli. Musk settles everything against the skin. The scent pulls in.
Cultural impact
Reign arrived as part of LEIƏR's Origin Collection, the most formal of the four Origin offerings, the one designed for occasions that ask for a little more ceremony. Its powdery, regal register positions it as a floral amber that rewards close attention rather than a room-filling statement. Wearers reaching for it tend to be after nuance over projection. In motion, the composition behaves like a slow procession. The blackcurrant and saffron opening is brisk and spiced, a quick gesture before the incense arrives to slow the pace.
