A house, in its own words
Leier was founded by Bria Bryant, a Spelman College graduate who also holds a Master Cosmetologist license and has trained in advanced perfumery. Before launching her own house, Bryant worked as a licensed cosmetologist, a background that gave her direct exposure to how people actually wear fragrance day to day, how scents interact with hair and skin products, and how layering routines shape personal style. That dual grounding in beauty culture and perfumery training became the foundation for Leier's identity. The brand publicly launched in early 2025, coinciding with Black History Month, which framed its introduction as a celebration of Black creativity and entrepreneurship in fragrance, a category where Black founders have historically been underrepresented. Coverage around the launch positioned Bryant as a first-generation founder building a legacy rather than simply releasing a product. Within months of debut, Leier expanded beyond its original four-scent collection, introducing a serum perfume format that signaled a longer-term commitment to customizable, skin-friendly fragrance. As a young, independently owned house, Leier's story is still being written, but its origin is clearly tied to Bryant's path from cosmetology school through perfumery training to launching her own label. At the center of Leier's creative vision is the belief that fragrance should be a medium for artistry, identity, and personal expression rather than a finished statement dictated by a brand. Bryant has described the house as built around intentionality, with each scent designed to be wearable on its own or combined with others, encouraging the wearer to act as co-creator. The brand rejects traditional gendered fragrance categories, offering compositions meant to read across the spectrum, and frames scent as something to be mixed, layered, and adjusted to mood or occasion. Leier also treats fragrance as part of a broader beauty ritual, drawing on Bryant's cosmetology background to think about how perfume sits alongside skincare, haircare, and body products rather than existing in isolation. The result is a philosophy that prizes flexibility, individuality, and self-definition over a single house signature.
