The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Goldfield & Banks Australia draws from the land Down Under where French perfumery tradition meets native botanicals. Broome sits where the red outback meets the Indian Ocean, a place shaped by the collision of land and sea. Sunset Hour captures the daily spectacle of that landscape, the hour when the blazing sun dips into warm water and paints everything gold. The fragrance launched in 2021, composed by Honorine Blanc for a house dedicated tonative botanicals and European craft.
Quandong Desert Peach anchors the opening, acknowledging Australia's botanical heritage while grounding the fragrance in place. The pairing of Salt and Rhubarb with tropical fruits creates a tension between arid landscape and coastal abundance that feels distinctly of the region. Coconut and Sandalwood in the drydown reference classic Australian beauty while honoring French perfumery tradition. Each note layer references the country's meeting of outback and ocean.
The evolution
The fragrance journey begins with Quandong Desert Peach and Raspberry opening the experience, their tart brightness amplified by Pear and Mandarin Orange. Sea Salt adds a mineral quality that recalls the shoreline while Rhubarb contributes an unexpected vegetal edge. As the composition evolves, Ginger emerges introducing warmth that contrasts with the cool floralcy of Jasmine. Green Mango and Coconut shift the palette toward tropical creaminess. The fragrance settles into its final chapter with Sandalwood and Pink Pepper providing structure, Benzoin adding resinous depth, and Vanilla paired with Caramel creating dessert-like warmth. Musk and Cashmere Wood complete the experience with Intimate skin-close softness.
Cultural impact
Goldfield & Banks Australia uses Sunset Hour to bring native Australian ingredients into wider view. The warm tropical fruit and creamy coconut make it approachable, while the unusual Desert Peach note and native sandalwood keep it distinct. The combination creates something accessible yet rooted in something distinctly Australian.
