The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Oud Sumptuous 75213 arrived in 2013 as part of Krigler's exploration of a material that divides rooms: the kind of oud that either converts or repels. The house chose neither. Instead of leaning into oud's animalic reputation, Krigler pursued a different direction entirely. The result carries the house's signature restraint. This is oud for someone who wants the depth without the barnyard. On skin, the Laotian oud opens with a dark, resinous warmth that feels ancient and grounding. The fragrance unfolds slowly, revealing layers that shift from rich and woody to something cooler, almost medicinal in its clarity. There is no aggression here, no barnyard or fecal notes that can make oud overwhelming. Instead, the material breathes.
What makes this composition unusual is the lavender. In most Oriental ouds, lavender reads as a dissonance, too clean, too masculine, too sharp against resinous depth. Here it becomes the bridge. It takes the Laotian oud's dark resin and filters it through something cooler, something almost medicinal. The coriander in the opening reinforces this: green, slightly citrusy, it prevents the benzoin from cloying in the first ten minutes. By the time vanilla arrives in the heart, the oud has already surrendered its aggression.
The evolution
The opening is all Laotian oud, resinous, dark, but already tamed by the Vietnamese benzoin. The coriander adds a brief herbal lift before the scent settles. Within twenty minutes, the lavender takes over. Cool, clean, almost soapy. The sandalwood arrives quietly, wrapping around the lavender without overwhelming it. The vanilla adds sweetness but stays subtle, this isn't a dessert fragrance. Two hours in, the drydown begins. Cinnamon emerges first, warming everything up before the amber and cedar take over. The papyrus adds a dry, papery quality that keeps the base from becoming too sweet. By hour four, you're left with powder. Close, intimate, present only to those standing near. Eight to ten hours on most skin. On fabric, it lingers until the next wash.
Cultural impact
Since its 2013 debut, Oud Sumptuous 75213 has occupied an unusual position in the oud landscape. The powdery lavender integration offers something different from traditional animalic ouds, softening the resinous depth without eliminating it. The fragrance does not fill rooms with projection; instead, it rewards proximity. The scent appeals to those who want depth without performance, who appreciate complexity that reveals itself slowly rather than announcing its presence immediately. It has become a quiet recommendation for anyone seeking an entry into oud that does not require accepting its more aggressive tendencies.
