The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
In 2008, Daniel Paillasseur was tasked with translating the brand's jewelry philosophy into scent for Korloff Paris. The brief called for something that would embody the brand's values through material choices rather than explicit messaging. Paillasseur built Kn°I around mint, blackcurrant, and pineapple, materials that read bright and immediate on skin. The mint opens with a sharp, awakening quality that clears the air. Blackcurrant arrives quickly, adding fruit depth without tipping into sweetness overload. Pineapple threads through as a subtle tropical note, not a piña colada moment, just enough warmth to keep the mint from feeling clinical.
What makes Kn°I work is the restraint. Mint opens sharp enough to wake you up, but blackcurrant arrives quickly to add fruit without sweetness overload. The pineapple threads through as a subtle tropical note, not a piña colada moment, just enough warmth to keep the mint from feeling clinical. In the heart, lily of the valley provides that characteristic green-floral signature, while freesia adds a clean powderiness that feels neither heavy nor overwhelming.
The evolution
The opening hits fast, mint and blackcurrant arrive within seconds, creating an immediate fresh-green impression that feels like biting into a cold grape. The mint starts sharp and awakening, cutting through the air with clarity. The blackcurrant adds a tart, fruity depth that prevents the opening from feeling too austere. As the initial burst settles, the pineapple begins to soften the tartness and adds a hint of tropical warmth, threading through the composition like a subtle breeze. The florals then begin their slow takeover. Lily of the valley and freesia emerge gradually, replacing the initial brightness with something softer and more intimate. This transition brings a powdery cleanliness that feels gentle against the skin. The drydown arrives when the white cedar and musk finally become the dominant players.
Cultural impact
Kn°I has maintained a quiet presence since 2008, not a blockbuster, but a reliable option for those who want fresh and green without loud projection. Wearers tend to describe it as the fragrance of someone who doesn't need to announce themselves. The scent has found its audience among those who appreciate subtlety over statement, choosing instead to leave a gentle impression that lingers in memory rather than filling a room. Its restrained character makes it a versatile choice for everyday wear, a fragrance that feels appropriate across different settings without ever feeling out of place or demanding attention.
