The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Body III launched in 2018 as part of the Body Collection, a line built around the idea that presence is something you cultivate, not something that happens to you. The brief was simple on paper: translate visibility into scent. Something that transforms. Something that owns visibility rather than apologizes for it. The brand's philosophy centers on personal moments as olfactory memories, and Body III needed to capture that, a fragrance that makes the body's own presence felt.
The composition reflects that intent. Fresh, aromatic top notes signal arrival. A smoky, intimate heart suggests something happening beneath the surface. And a warm, close drydown ensures the presence lingers without overwhelming. It's a structure that mirrors how someone commands a room, not by being loud, but by being there. The orris-vetiver pairing in the base is particularly effective. Both materials have a skin-like quality that makes the drydown feel organic rather than constructed. The vanilla doesn't sweeten so much as bind, holding the sandalwood and cedar together into something that reads as signature rather than applied.
The evolution
The opening hits bright and crackling, pink and black pepper creating immediate energy. French lavender and juniper berries keep it grounded, aromatic rather than sharp. The juniper especially prevents the pepper from feeling too volatile. Within minutes, the incense arrives. Not as smoke, more as a clean, mineral presence, like the air in a room that someone's just left. Violet leaf cuts through to maintain crispness. The orris adds a powdery warmth that feels almost skin-like. The drydown is where it becomes intimate. Orris lingers longer than expected, maintaining that powdery, skin-like quality while sandalwood, cedar, and vetiver create warmth that stays close rather than projecting. The vanilla acts as a binder, holding everything together for hours. By the end of the day, only a trace of warm cedar and vanilla remains. A memory rather than a statement.
Cultural impact
Body III draws comparisons to Byredo's Gypsy Water and Le Labo's Santal 33, but it carves its own identity through its incense-forward character and the way vanilla anchors the composition without overwhelming it. It's the fragrance for someone who wants presence without projection.
