The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Jeroboam introduced Unue in 2020 with a single guiding principle: the celebration of the singular. The brand works exclusively in extrait de parfum concentration, the most material-intensive format in perfumery, and Vanina Muracciole built Unue within that framework. The concentrated format means that materials have room to develop fully rather than being compressed into a fleeting top note. Pineapple and bergamot open the composition, but they are not merely decorative. They establish a tropical brightness that contrasts with the deeper floral heart and woody base.
The note structure in Unue reflects a deliberate philosophy of contrast and harmony. The tropical sweetness of pineapple and ylang-ylang is balanced by the spice of pink pepper and star anise in the opening, while the floral heart of jasmine and plum is grounded by the woody base of sandalwood and patchouli. This progression from bright to lush to intimate mirrors the natural arc of a concentrated fragrance allowed to develop on skin. Each layer has enough space to express itself before the next arrives, creating a narrative rather than a static impression.
The evolution
Unue begins with pineapple and bergamot creating an immediate tropical impression, a sparkling sweetness that catches attention. Pink pepper arrives within seconds, introducing warmth and a faint prickliness that keeps the opening from becoming purely fruity. Star anise lingers beneath, adding a subtle licorice note that becomes more apparent as the initial burst settles. Within twenty minutes, jasmine emerges as the dominant force, its creamy white floralcy supported by plum and ylang-ylang. The plum adds jammy depth while ylang-ylang extends the tropical character established in the opening. As hours pass, the heart notes begin to fade and the base takes over. Musk provides a clean skin-like quality, sandalwood adds creamy woody warmth, and patchouli introduces earthy depth that grounds the entire composition. The drydown is intimate and lingering, the mark of a true extrait de parfum.
Cultural impact
The pineapple opening catches attention with its camphoric-green, aldehyde-bright character. Camphoric-green and aldehyde-bright notes create a vibrant introduction that draws interest immediately. Those who stay with the fragrance discover a warm jasmine heart and a sandalwood drydown that rewards proximity. Found at Selfridges, Luckyscent, and select niche retailers worldwide.
