The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Boha was created in collaboration with Buro, a Ukrainian internet magazine, as a tribute to Ukrainian women. Vanina Muracciole constructed this fragrance around a white flowers bouquet meant to evoke purity. An almost intimidating purity, like a gaze that runs through you with intensity. This was about capturing something essential, the presence of someone who walks into a room and doesn't need to announce themselves. Gardenia as conviction, not decoration. The scent opens with a crisp brightness that quickly gives way to the lush white floral heart, where the gardenia takes center stage with an assuredness that feels both natural and commanding.
Gardenia is a challenging note. It can turn screechy, can smell like wet earth or potting soil if handled wrong. Muracciole anchored hers in a foundation of musk and sandalwood, letting the gardenia sit on top without becoming volatile. The result is gardenia that feels natural, almost confrontational in its clarity. Violet leaf adds a greenness that keeps the florals from reading as sweet or innocent, bringing a sharpness that cuts through the petals. Orange blossom and jasmine round out the bouquet without diluting the gardenia's dominance.
The evolution
The opening announces itself quickly, bergamot's citrus brightness paired with almond's creamy, almost edible softness. No harsh edges here. The gardenia arrives within minutes, and immediately you understand what the brand meant by 'almost intimidating purity.' This is gardenia in full force, supported by jasmine absolute and orange blossom, singing an irresistible melody that is at once delicate and commanding. By the third hour, the green notes settle and the woody base begins to assert itself, sandalwood's warmth threading through musk and oakmoss. The white florals don't disappear; they deepen, becoming something quieter but no less present. The sillage remains strong throughout the wear, and as the hours pass, the composition shifts from its initial floral brightness toward a more grounded, resinous warmth that lingers in the air around you.
Cultural impact
Boha occupies a specific space in the niche market: white floral for someone who finds most white florals too soft or too synthetic. The fragrance has developed a following among those who appreciate gardenia in its more natural, less domesticated form, the kind that can read as green, almost earthy, rather than politely floral. It's not a safe choice, and that's precisely why it works for those who wear it. The extract concentration gives the scent a presence that feels intentional and considered, a fragrance that asks something of its wearer rather than simply pleasant.
