The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Gio Antonelli landed at Jequiti in 2020 with a specific brief: wearable warmth for the Brazilian woman who wants comfort and a little seduction in the same bottle. Clement Gavarry built the scent around a fruit-to-leather arc, opening at the top with notes that feel generous, almost edible, and pulling everything down into skin at the base. The fruit comes through ripe and immediate, raspberry and nectarine layered over a softer apricot, and that sweetness reads like the color of a lipstick you cannot quite name. As the hours pass, leatherwood and almond move into the foreground, lending the composition the texture of fabric warmed by body heat, before the suede base opens up warm and slightly powdery.
What separates Gio Antonelli from the mass-market fruity-floral crowd is the leather at the center. Most accessible scents stop at sweetness. Gavarry pushes through it with almond and a leatherwood note that adds the texture of a jacket thrown over a bare shoulder. The drydown grounds that tension further with suede, cashmere wood, and sandalwood, anchoring the fruit without burying it. The accord reads powdery and slightly animalic at the edges, which gives the composition its quiet drama. It is a fragrance built on the hinge between comfort and something more.
The evolution
The opening is pure fruit, almost jammy. Raspberry and nectarine sit on top of a quieter apricot, and the whole thing reads like the color of a lipstick you cannot quite name. The sweetness comes through immediate and generous, the kind of ripeness that feels cut moments ago, with apricot underneath softening the edges into something closer to jam. As the fruit begins to thin, the leatherwood presses through, followed by an almond note that adds the texture of marzipan without the sugar. The composition shifts from edible to wearable, the texture of fabric warmed by body heat. The suede base then opens up, warm and slightly powdery, and the cashmere wood smooths the edges. What survives the longest is the sandalwood and amber combination, a low hum of skin-warmth that sits close to the pulse points for hours.
Cultural impact
Gio Antonelli is fruit-forward enough to feel current and grounded enough to feel grown, a combination that earns it a steady place in the routines of many wearers. The opening raspberry and nectarine, layered over a softer apricot, carry a sweetness that reads almost edible before the composition pulls back into leather and almond. By the time the suede base opens up, warm and slightly powdery, the fragrance has settled into something low and skin-close. Wearers gravitate to it as a daily scent with character, a fragrance that holds its shape through the hours.
