The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Verveine Cédrat was built around a simple Provençal truth: the best ingredients grow in the most demanding light. Jeanne en Provence released it in 2015 as part of a collection honoring Mediterranean summer harvests. The perfumer wanted to create a fragrance that captures the intensity of verbena and citron at their most vibrant. The result is a scent that evokes the warmth of a Provençal orchard, where lemon and verbena combine with the resinous character of Mediterranean trees sheltering you from the sun.
Lemon and citron appear here as the whole fruit, the peel, the pith, the oil. They are not the cleaned, sanitized interpretation found in many fragrances. Instead, they retain their natural complexity and tartness. The elemi resin adds a warm, faintly piney quality that bridges the opening to the heart without softening it into sweetness. This combination creates a fragrance that feels both vibrant and grounded, with the citrus notes providing brightness while the elemi adds depth and resinous warmth.
The evolution
The opening hits immediately, Sicilian lemon and citron, bright and tart and direct. No preamble. The elemi resin is the first surprise: not a sharp resin but a warm one, something almost piney that keeps the citrus from being one-dimensional. That resinous quality adds warmth throughout the opening while the heart begins to unfold. The heart is where verbena earns its name in the title. The citrus doesn't disappear, the orange family arrives in full: grapefruit, bitter orange, mandarin, blood orange layered over the lemon verbena. It's complex citrus, not simple citrus. The projection shifts as the fragrance develops, and this is where the scent becomes something you'd want to live in rather than show off. The drydown strips everything back to citrus and musk.
Cultural impact
Verveine Cédrat occupies a specific and underserved corner of the women's fragrance market. It offers genuine Provençal warmth without the heritage-house markup. The fragrance ranks respectfully among women's fragrances on enthusiasts, a respectable position for a house that focuses on quality and accessibility. The scent has earned its place in the market, appealing to those who appreciate character and depth without excessive cost.
