The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Dominique Preyssas designed Eau Fresh with the goal of creating something that refused the easy path. Rather than following the prevailing trends, Preyssas reached instead for galbanum, tarragon, and star anise, building an opening that announced itself without apology. The pineapple was the unexpected move. A touch of tropical sweetness in a green-aromatic structure, bringing an unexpected warmth and brightness to the composition. The result is a fragrance that feels both assertive and approachable from the very first spray.
What makes this composition unusual isn't any single note but the way the green and citrus layers refuse to resolve into something expected. Galbanum opens with a bitter, almost medicinal sharpness, while star anise and tarragon add aniseedy warmth that brings depth to the top. The pineapple note is the thread that runs through: sweet enough to soften the herbs, bright enough to keep the citrus honest. It's a balancing act that requires each material to hold its ground without overwhelming the others.
The evolution
The galbanum arrives first. Sharp, green, immediate. Then the citrus floods in, grapefruit and Amalfi lemon carrying the top notes before the herbs take over. The pineapple doesn't announce itself loudly, but it's there, threading sweetness through the tarragon and star anise. The heart shifts the fragrance into aromatic territory: geranium, lavender, jasmine, and rosemary form a garden path that feels masculine without being heavy. Vetiver, oakmoss, and stone pine needle settle in, adding earthy depth and a dry finish that lingers. The sillage is noticeable in the voting pattern, with moderate ratings from the community suggesting it stays close to the skin rather than projecting far.
Cultural impact
Eau Fresh presents a composition that chose green and aromatic over salt and sea. The galbanum-anise-tarragon axis is assertive in a way that gives the fragrance real distinction. For men who wanted freshness with genuine character, it offered an alternative that felt different from what was available. Spring and summer wear the fragrance best, though it carries into fall without strain. The sillage suits contexts where presence without volume is the goal, allowing the wearer to make an impression without overwhelming the space around them.
