The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Origine Un arrived in 2019 as part of In The Box's Match Of Senses collection, a lineup built around raw materials selected with intention. The composition reads as a showcase for the collection's earthy-spicy register, a blend that takes the warmth and weight of its core seriously enough to commit. Origine Un leans into a spicy-woody territory where the materials carry the structure, and every other note serves that center rather than competing for attention. The opening cuts bright with pear, pink pepper, ginger, lavender, and Sicilian lemon, a clean and slightly sweet entry that gives way quickly to a denser, warmer heart of cinnamon, cashmere wood, leather, cedar, and patchouli.
What makes Origine Un structurally interesting is how the pyramid moves between registers without ever switching genres. The top opens with pink pepper, ginger, lavender, Sicilian lemon, and pear, a bright, slightly sweet entry that could credibly belong to a fresher, more commercial composition. Then the heart pivots into cinnamon, cashmere wood, leather, cedar, and patchouli, which is where the fragrance earns its warmth. The spice and wood share the space rather than one dominating, giving the mid-phase a layered feel.
The evolution
The opening doesn't waste time. Pear and Sicilian lemon flash briefly before ginger takes over, warm and almost peppery, cutting through the citrus without flattening it. Pink pepper arrives on the edges, a soft buzz rather than a sting, while lavender slides quietly underneath, keeping the top from tipping into pure gourmand. The air during this phase smells close to a clean kitchen in winter, citrus on the counter, spice in the pan, but nothing cooked yet. As the composition evolves, cinnamon takes the lead and the composition recalibrates entirely. The brightness from the top fades into a backdrop, and what remains is dense, woody warmth. Cashmere wood gives the mid-phase its softness, a brushed-fabric texture that sits beneath the leather and patchouli. The leather here isn't sharp or animalic, it's grounded in cedar's dry grain and sits alongside patchouli's earthy weight.
Cultural impact
Origine Un arrived in 2019 as part of In The Box's Match Of Senses collection. Its warm-spice, tobacco-amber structure positioned the release among the spicier, more atmospheric fragrances that gained traction as consumers gravitated toward richer, more enveloping scent profiles. The Match Of Senses series reads as a product-first lineup, where the creative choices center on the composition itself rather than on the personalities behind it.
