The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
When they revisit, Guerlain commits. Insolence Crazy Touch arrived in 2014 as a collector's flanker, a limited-edition statement tucked into the house's Serge Mansau bottle. The name says it: Crazy Touch. The original Insolence played it composed, elegant, powder-violet with quiet confidence. This version pushed further. More raspberry. More red berry. More of everything the first one only implied. The flanker amplifies the fruit notes that the original only hinted at, adding richness and depth while maintaining the violet and powder elements that define the line. A collector's object for those who wanted something beyond the standard release, a bolder interpretation that doesn't abandon the house's aesthetic.
What makes this flanker work where others stumble is the orris root. The powdery effect brings a softness that grounds the raspberry sweetness before it floats away. Tonka bean and musk then work the opposite direction, warming the drydown into something skin-close and lasting. The combination of cool violet heart and warm cream base gives Crazy Touch its unusual shape: sweet but not girlish, powdery but not dusty, fruity but with somewhere to go. There's a richness to the fruit here that feels intentional rather than accidental, a fullness that respects what came before.
The evolution
Raspberry and red berries arrive simultaneously, almost competitive, with citrus notes cutting through the sweetness. The violet asserts itself alongside the fruit, not replacing it, just joining it. The rose is subtle, more suggestion than statement. As time passes, the fruity brightness has softened into a powder-cloud, and orris takes over as the dominant note. The sandalwood emerges quietly, creamy and understated, before tonka bean and musk settle into a warm, intimate drydown. The powder persists long after the fruit has faded, giving Crazy Touch a second act that rewards those who wear it through the day.
Cultural impact
Released in 2014, Crazy Touch sits alongside the house's core line as a flanker that takes the original's character in a new direction. The limited bottle suggests something special, something set apart from the standard offerings. Those who found it got a version of Insolence that pushed the fruity-powdery character further, adding richness and depth while keeping the violet structure that makes the line recognizable.
