The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Eau d'Esire arrived in 2025 as part of Gravel's Transcendence Collection, a new chapter that carries forward the kind of intentional, considered approach the house has become known for. The Transcendence Collection itself signals a willingness to explore unfamiliar territory, and Eau d'Esire sits comfortably inside that ambition. The official description frames it as vibrant, sensual, and full of longing for new horizons, language that pairs naturally with a collection built on reaching past the expected. The composition is the work of perfumer Mirella Pomina, and the result leans immediately into a contrast that gives the fragrance its identity.
The structural choice here is what gives Eau d'Esire its particular character. The top layer runs tropical with pineapple, mango, and bergamot, but saffron and nutmeg arrive almost immediately, threading heat through the fruit before it can register as simple. The spices don't wait for the brightness to fade; they move in alongside it, reshaping the opening from the inside. By the time the heart opens with violet and cumin, the fragrance has already declared it won't behave like a typical aromatic.
The evolution
The opening is where Eau d'Esire makes its first statement, and it doesn't whisper. Pineapple and mango hit first, sugary and unmistakable, with bergamot sharpening the edges and pulling a citric brightness across the fruit. Cypress pulls in just behind, giving the opening a green, almost resinous backbone that keeps it from collapsing into fruit juice. There's a leafy coolness to the cypress that adds dimension, a slight bitterness that keeps the sweetness honest. Then the spices arrive. Saffron and nutmeg spread through the opening like ink dropped in water, turning the tropical character into something denser, warmer, and more deliberate. The saffron brings a leathery, almost metallic richness, while the nutmeg adds a softer, woody warmth that rounds out the edges.
Cultural impact
Eau d'Esire arrived in 2025 as part of Gravel's Transcendence Collection, a release that places tropical-spicy composition at the center of its identity. The pineapple-saffron opening announces a fragrance that doesn't hold back, and the structure that follows keeps that energy alive well into the drydown. The composition moves from fruit to spice to a moss-and-balsam base without losing its sense of direction, and the result is a scent that feels both immediate and layered.
