The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Christine Nagel created Sì in 2013 with a clear intent, the name itself a declaration. Sì means yes in Italian, and the fragrance was built to embody a confident, intentional femininity. Blackcurrant nectar anchors the composition, paired with May rose absolute and jasmine absolute from Egypt, grounded in warm vanilla. It won the Fragrance Foundation Award for Women's Prestige Fragrance of the Year in 2015. The face of the campaign was Cate Blanchett, photographed by Tom Munro, an actress whose own presence embodies that same studied nonchalance. The brief was simple: a fragrance for a woman who chooses herself.
The choice of blackcurrant liqueur as the opening note is what sets Sì apart from typical fruity-florals. It brings a tart, almost effervescent quality, bright without being lightweight. The absolute oils in the heart (May rose and Egyptian jasmine) are richer and more textured than their standard equivalents, giving the florals a warm, enveloping quality rather than a pale, watery one. Vanilla absolute in the base provides warmth without the dessert-like sweetness of a Gourmand fragrance. The result is a composition that walks the line between approachable and sophisticated, fruity enough to charm, refined enough to last.
The evolution
The opening hits immediately, blackcurrant liqueur gives a sharp, tart impression that reads almost effervescent. The Sicilian bergamot and mandarin orange add brightness, but the blackcurrant leads. That opening lasts roughly 15 to 30 minutes before the florals take over. The heart phase is where Sì becomes itself. May rose absolute and Egyptian jasmine absolute bloom into something warm and intimate. Neroli absolute bridges the transition with a delicate citrus-green quality that softens the florals. This is the phase that gets described as feminine, warm, opulent. The drydown belongs to vanilla absolute, warm, creamy, and persistent. Woody notes and patchouli provide structure without heaviness. Amber adds a subtle resinous quality that keeps the drydown close to the skin. The full arc lasts 8 to 10 hours on most skin types. The next morning, there's a quiet trace of vanilla and patchouli, the skin remembers it longer than the wearer does.
Cultural impact
Sì launched in 2013 and quickly became a signature for women who appreciate that Italian sense of self-assurance, sophisticated and grounded, but never loud. It won Women's Prestige Fragrance of the Year at the 2015 Fragrance Foundation Awards, cementing its place as a modern classic. The fragrance strikes a balance between everyday wearability and something with real character.
