Dalia Izem built Forbidden Plum around a single, deliberate collision: the lush, almost edible sweetness of ripe plum set against the resinous gravity of oud. As part of Fragrance Du Bois's 2026 Oud Extrait line, the composition treats plum not as a garnish but as the main event, with clove and bergamot sharpening its edges before it ever reaches the heart. The name tells you what to expect. Forbidden because it leans indulgent, sweet in a way that dares to be worn without apology.
What separates this from the usual plum-and-oud pairing is the middle act. Cream, Indian tuberose, and rum turn the composition away from a straight gourmand and into something denser, almost cocktail-like. The whipped-cream accord softens plum's natural tartness without flattening it, while the rum adds a fermented warmth that reads more like late-evening than dessert. It is a structure that trusts the wearer to want both pleasure and depth in the same bottle.
The evolution
The first ten minutes are bright and almost edible. Bergamot cuts through, clove sparks, and plum sits at the surface like fruit just split open. There's nothing shy about it. By the thirty-minute mark, the cream and rum have pulled the composition inward. Tuberose arrives creamy and indolic, the kind that makes the air feel heavier. The plum doesn't disappear; it soaks into the cream and turns jammy, almost wine-like. After two hours, the base takes over properly. Australian sandalwood smooths everything out, Indonesian patchouli adds a cool earthiness underneath, and the oud finally steps forward with its leathery, slightly animalic weight.
