Why it exists.
The beginning
Autumn 20 arrived in 2020 as part of Ffern's seasonal cycle, each release shaped by the character of its moment. Perfumer Elodie Durande built the composition around Somali frankincense. Durande layered bay leaf and bergamot zest for brightness, then let Indonesian patchouli and Turkish damask rose settle into the composition. The opening carries a resinous coolness, the kind of hush that settles through woods at the turn of the season. There's the sharp crack of cold air moving through dry leaves, the slow bloom of warmth when a fireplace catches properly. Bergamot zest cuts through with a lifted, almost medicinal clarity, preventing the frankincense from reading too solemn. Bay leaf adds an herbal, slightly bitter edge that keeps the brightness honest.
