Elodie Durande
Elodie Durande grew up in a quiet Normandy village before she earned a chemistry degree at the University of Montpellier. She entered the fragrance world as an evaluator, a role that taught her how raw materials behave in a lab and how brands judge a new accord. The experience gave her a clear view of the creative process. François Robert, a fourth‑generation master perfumer, invited her to apprentice in his Montpellier studio. Under his guidance she mastered the balance between tradition and innovation. In 2018 she accepted a position as creative perfumer for the niche house FFern, later expanding her portfolio with Quintessence Fragrances. Her first public commission, a unisex scent that blended crisp green apple with soft cedar, earned praise for its honesty and precision. Since then she has built a reputation for transparent compositions that let each ingredient speak.

How Elodie composes
Elodie favors a minimalist palette. She often reaches for citrus top notes, transparent florals, and dry woods that provide structure without overwhelming the composition. In the lab she builds layers slowly, allowing each addition to settle before moving on. She enjoys using natural absolutes such as Bulgarian rose and Haitian vetiver, but she also embraces synthetics that add clarity, like iso e super or heliotropane. Her signatures include a clean green apple crispness and a subtle ambergris glow that lingers softly on skin.
Philosophy
What drives Elodie
Elodie believes that perfume should reveal a moment rather than mask it. She starts each brief by asking what memory or feeling the client wants to capture, then she searches for a single material that can anchor the idea. She respects the chemistry of a formula and lets the natural evolution of the blend guide her decisions. Sustainability matters to her; she prefers ingredients that are responsibly sourced and supports suppliers who practice fair trade. Her work aims to create scents that feel lived‑in from the first spray, inviting the wearer to pause and notice the world.
