Heritage
A house, in its own words
The story of Michael Malul begins with Hanan Malul, who spent several years working in luxury perfume retail before turning to creation. In 2019 she founded Michael Malul London, positioning the label as a U.S.-based niche house despite the London reference in the name. Early releases like Ocean Noir (2021) established a reputation for clear, modern storytelling through scent. By 2022 the brand expanded its portfolio with Petit Bouquet and Citizen Jack Parfum, both of which received coverage in independent fragrance blogs and were noted for their balance of freshness and depth. 2023 saw the introduction of West Loop, a fragrance inspired by urban architecture, followed by a series of 2024 launches—Jet Black Horizon, Modern Poet, South Slope, and the collaborative South Slope—each reflecting a different facet of contemporary life. The rapid rollout continued into 2025 with Ginger+Mist and Sangria+Embers, demonstrating the house’s commitment to seasonal relevance while maintaining a consistent aesthetic. Throughout its first six years, Michael Malul has remained privately owned, with Hanan Malul guiding creative direction and overseeing partnerships with ingredient suppliers across Europe and the United States. The brand’s growth has been documented in niche perfume forums and specialty retail reports, confirming its position as a small but influential player in the modern fragrance landscape. Michael Malul’s creative vision centers on the idea that fragrance should be an accessible part of daily routine. The brand emphasizes clarity of intention: each scent is built around a single narrative moment, whether that is a sunrise over the city or the quiet of a late‑night coffee. Transparency in ingredient sourcing and a commitment to sustainable practices are repeatedly highlighted in interviews with Hanan Malul, who describes the house’s values as a blend of scientific rigor and artistic curiosity. Rather than chasing trends, the team studies cultural shifts and translates them into olfactory language, aiming to produce perfumes that feel both current and timeless. Community feedback from independent reviewers informs future releases, ensuring that the house remains responsive without compromising its core ethos of wearability.
