The beginning
Sultan White Rose: Blue Yunnan draws its name from somewhere atmospheric, less a place on a map than a color of mood. Released in 2026 as part of Ensar Oud's EO Privée collection, it reads less like a single statement and more like a curated dossier of what rose and oud can be when treated as ingredients worth traveling for. The composition pairs rose traditions drawn from Persian, Afghan, and Taif sources with oud materials selected from Chinese, Cambodian, Malayan, Thai, and Sri Lankan origins. It's an unusual breadth, the kind of geographic range usually reserved for blending houses with decades of sourcing relationships.
What separates this from the usual rose-oud template is the citrus layer upfront and the sheer breadth of oud origins underneath. Green mandarin, Italian neroli, and Korean yuzu stack into something brighter than most oud bases allow. Meanwhile, Chinese, Cambodian, Malayan, Thai, and Sri Lankan ouds appear in the drydown. Persian, Afghan, and Taif rose ottos in the heart create a similar triangulation, three rose traditions from three different growing regions meeting in a single composition. The frankincense from Oman, the frangipani, the costus root: these aren't decorative.
The evolution
The first hour is almost deceptive in its brightness. Mandarin and yuzu hit first, sharp and almost carbonated, while neroli rounds the edges. Frangipani settles in, softening everything just enough. By the second hour, the roses take command: Persian, Afghan, and Taif ottos layering into something that smells less like a single flower and more like an arrangement of related but distinct blooms occupying the same space. The frankincense from Oman weaves through, adding a resinous backbone before you fully register it's there. The oud constellation arrives as the composition deepens: Chinese, Cambodian, Malayan, Thai, and Sri Lankan, each contributing its own character to the base. Costus adds its earthy, slightly animal hum. Tonkin musk and ambergris arrive last, carrying the whole composition into skin territory.
