The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
In 2018, Ensar decided to step into the lineage of Old English Leather and the Cuir de Russies by Creed and Chanel. Not to compete with them, to offer something they never attempted. The idea was simple. Add oud. The execution was anything but. Most fragrance houses had explored leather in every concentration. Few had used the one ingredient that could make any leather aroma explode with oomph, artisanal oud, because sourcing it is expensive and unpredictable. So Ensar sourced it anyway. Qi Nam Khmer V2, one of the most incense-y Cambodis ever distilled. A 13-years-aged wild Sinensis extract from Hainan. A small amount of Oud Mostafa No 6 from a small supplier. Then let them speak to each other through the leather. The combination creates something unexpected.
The aged oud transforms how leather reads on skin, giving it a worn-in quality. The Qi Nam Khmer V2 Cambodian oud contributes an incense-like depth that cuts through any sweetness, adding a smoky, resinous character that grounds the entire composition. The rose is never powdery or demure. It is present from the start, delicate but persistent, adding an airiness that keeps the composition from becoming purely animalic. Tobacco arrives late and warm, a counterpoint to the oud's resinous weight. It doesn't compete, it balances.
The evolution
The opening announces itself. Dark leather, sharp, animalic, almost clean in its intensity. The rose and tobacco arrive early, complicating the leather rather than waiting to be called. The oud remains present through the opening, providing a resinous foundation that supports the other notes. It doesn't dominate initially but contributes its characteristic warmth and depth to the composition. Once settled, the leather and oud blend together. The rose maintains its presence throughout, adding sweetness and airiness. The tobacco continues as a warm presence, threading through the drydown without dominating. As the fragrance develops, the leather softens while remaining present. The oud provides persistent warmth. The tobacco lingers in the background, adding a subtle smokiness that balances the sweeter elements. The rose recedes slightly but stays woven through the composition.
Cultural impact
Sultan Leather Attar occupies a distinctive corner of the fragrance world, appealing to those who appreciate natural oud in leather compositions. The fragrance combines multiple aromatic materials that interact throughout wear, creating complexity that reveals itself gradually. On skin, the fragrance opens bold and assertive, with the leather immediately present. As time passes, the composition softens and settles, becoming more intimate while retaining its character. The oud provides warmth and resinous depth that persists throughout wear.
