The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
New Crush arrived in 2026 as part of Ellis Brooklyn's Summer of Love collection, and the name does all the heavy lifting. It's the scent of catching feelings you didn't plan on, written in citrus and warm pastry notes. Honorine Blanc, the perfumer behind the composition, built it around a single tension: the jolt of a new attraction, sweet but not cloying, exciting without tipping into chaos. The brand's brief was simple. Capture that first rush of energy, the kind that makes you text back too fast, then ground it in something edible and familiar. The result is a citrus gourmand that reads more like a memory than a menu item. Bright at the door, warm at the table.
What's interesting here is the structural choice. Most citrus fragrances live and die in the top notes, then collapse into something woody or musky that has nothing to do with the opening. Blanc kept the fruit present, threading blood orange, nectarine, and clementine into the composition in a way that lets the citrus stick around long enough to meet the florals. Gardenia and jasmine sambac bloom through the heart, and the orange notes still peek through, giving the florals a sweet, almost edible warmth. Then the base takes a turn into dessert territory.
The evolution
The opening is electric. Blood orange and clementine arrive together, almost aggressive in their brightness, with nectarine adding a fuzzy, sun-warmed sweetness underneath. There's no slow build here, it's immediate, like biting into cold fruit on a hot afternoon. As the fragrance settles on skin, the gardenia and jasmine sambac come forward, and neroli lifts the white florals into something less soapy, more like orange blossom water over warm skin. The shift feels natural rather than constructed. The citrus gradually steps back, and the almond flan base takes over. Crème caramel and vanilla meringue give it a baked, almost custardy quality, while tonka bean adds a soft, powdery warmth. In the final stretch, what remains is mostly almond and vanilla, sitting close to the skin like the ghost of a dessert you finished an hour ago.
Cultural impact
New Crush Mist fits squarely into the citrus-gourmand category, offering a lighter, more playful alternative to heavier dessert compositions. The combination of blood orange, nectarine, and clementine in the opening, paired with an almond flan base of crème caramel, tonka bean, and vanilla meringue, makes it versatile for warm weather while still leaning sweet. The 240ml mist format places it in the body spray category, which makes it easy to layer, reapply, and treat as part of a daily routine rather than a once-a-day statement.
