Why it exists.
The beginning
Ahmed Mostafa built his craft on the attar traditions of the Arabian Gulf, then brought that discipline into Elixir Attar, a house he founded with a focus on handcrafted perfume. Mukhallat S, AlShazly sits inside that practice. The name carries the language of the mukhallat format, a blend built around oud and resin. Released in 2026, the composition reflects the kind of layered structure the house has become known for, with oud anchoring the top, heart, and base while resins, florals, and woods orbit around it. On first encounter, the smoke arrives immediately, sharp and herbaceous, lifting into petitgrain, rosemary, and lavender before the heavier materials settle in.
What makes the structure worth attention is the layering. Oud appears in both the opening and the heart and again in the base, a triple-stacked decision that anchors the entire pyramid in resinous wood rather than letting florals carry the center. Indian oud shows up in both the heart and the base, and that recurrence gives the composition a continuity you can track from the first spray to the last trace on skin. The smoke in the opening reads as more than just atmosphere.
The evolution
On skin, the first minutes belong to the smoke and citrus. It's sharp, almost herbal, with petitgrain and lavender pulling green and rosemary adding a clean bitterness. The oud announces itself quickly but doesn't dominate yet. As the composition opens, jasmine and freesia soften the edges, cyclamen adds a watery coolness, and the Indian oud deepens into something darker. The smoke thins but never disappears. In the later phase of wear, the base takes over. Cedar grounds it, frankincense adds an incense lift, labdanum pulls warm and sticky, and amber wraps everything in a resinous close. The musk underneath remains part of the texture even when other notes have faded. Hours in, the sillage draws closer to the skin. What's left on skin the next morning is mostly the Indian oud and a faint trail of labdanum and amber, still holding its shape.

As a 2026 release, Mukhallat S, AlShazly reflects the ongoing conversation around the mukhallat format as a multi-layered oud blend.
