The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Cohiban Coffee Oud Extreme brings together the warmth of coffee attar with the depth of oud. Its gourmand character comes through in notes of dark chocolate, coffee, and honey, while tobacco and cigar resinoid add a darker, smoke-rich layer beneath the sweetness. Oud acts as the structural spine, giving the composition a dense and enduring center rather than serving as a quiet supporting accent. As the fragrance develops, the coffee and chocolate remain prominent, but they are shaped by the resinous materials and woody base. Honey adds a rounded sweetness that connects the gourmand notes with the drier facets of oud, tobacco, and sandalwood. The result is an attar oil built around contrasts: rich and roasted, sweet and smoky, soft and dark.
The unusual combination here is the marriage of cigar resinoid with dark chocolate and Indian jasmine sambac through the heart of the composition. Coffee supplies a roasted note that reinforces the chocolate, while honey absolute adds a rounded sweetness and helps connect the gourmand materials with the darker tobacco and oud facets. The jasmine contributes a floral lift, giving the dense blend a point of contrast and preventing the sweetness from becoming the only focus.
The evolution
The opening arrives dense and almost overwhelming. Dark chocolate and honey absolute come forward first, thick as ganache, and within minutes the tobacco and cigar resinoid start threading underneath. The oud is not shy. It enters early, resinous and slightly medicinal, the kind that smells like it's still attached to wood. For the first hour, the composition feels like a single heavy mass, everything fused together. Around the two-hour mark, the Indian jasmine sambac surfaces, sharp and almost green against the density, giving the oud somewhere to go. This is where the fragrance starts to show its architecture rather than just its weight. The Mysore sandalwood takes over by hour three, creamy and slightly powdery, cushioning the oud and chocolate. By hour five, most of the sweetness has burned off. What remains is oud, sandalwood, and the faintest trace of guaiac wood, smoky, woody, and surprisingly dry. Six to eight hours in, the scent sits close to the skin, a quiet version of the noise it made earlier.
Cultural impact
Cohiban Coffee Oud Extreme occupies an expressive point within attar fragrance, where gourmand notes meet oud and tobacco in a richly layered format. Coffee and dark chocolate create a roasted, dessert-like foundation, while honey rounds the sweetness and gives it a smoother transition into the darker materials. Tobacco and cigar resinoid add a warm, smoky dimension, and oud provides depth that extends through the composition. Mysore sandalwood contributes a soft woody texture beneath the more intense notes, helping the fragrance feel rounded rather than simply sharp.
