The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
El Ganso built its identity around accessible fashion rooted in Barcelona, sharp shirts, witty prints, a brand that takes itself lightly. When the label entered fragrance in 2019, the brief stayed consistent: scent as an accessory, not a statement. Fun & Free arrived in 2025 as a collaboration with perfumer Jérôme Di Marino, built around a single idea, joy doesn't need to be complicated.
Di Marino structured Fun & Free around three clear movements rather than a cluttered pyramid. The hazelnut is the connective tissue, it bridges the fruit-floral opening and the sweet-woody base without becoming either. By naming it as a main material rather than burying it in the drydown, El Ganso signals something different: a gourmand-adjacent warmth that stays confident and accessible. No apology required.
The evolution
The opening hits immediate and bright, mandarin and mirabelle plum create a tart, juicy spark. Within minutes the jasmine and orange blossom bloom forward while the hazelnut begins its slow reveal, more praline than nut. The heart holds for the longest phase, florals and hazelnut circling each other until the sandalwood and benzoin arrive to wrap everything warm. The drydown settles into a creamy, sweet-woody trail that stays close to skin for hours. By the end, it's soft. Comfortable. The kind of scent you reach for again without thinking.
Cultural impact
El Ganso entered the fragrance market in 2019, joining a wave of Spanish fashion houses expanding beyond clothing into accessible beauty. Fun & Free represents the brand's push toward younger, more relaxed consumers who want wearable scents without intimidating complexity. The 2025 release arrives during a period when mass-luxury perfume houses face pressure from indie and direct-to-consumer brands. El Ganso's strategy of releasing mood-driven fragrances rather than seasonal collections reflects a broader shift in how fashion brands approach scent as an extension of lifestyle, not just a product category.
