The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
The La Dorine collection by Dorin presents three distinct feminine archetypes, Passionnee, Charmeuse, and Romantique. Each fragrance takes its name from a role, a disposition, a way of moving through the world. Romantique, released in 2012, translates the quiet drama of romantic feeling into scent. The house describes it as revealing innermost feelings. Three women, three characters, one olfactory stage. Romantique asks: what does it smell like when a person stops performing and simply feels? The collection invites exploration of identity through scent, with each archetype offering a different emotional landscape. Romantique in particular seems to tap into something private, something the wearer keeps close.
The answer lies in the structure. Citrus opens the chapter, bergamot and lemon arriving clean and direct. Then the florals deepen without ever becoming heavy. Jasmine and rose are present alongside neroli in the middle notes. The real decision is in the woods: sandalwood and cedar form the base alongside patchouli and vetiver. The overall impression moves from bright opening through a floral heart to a woody foundation. This structure gives Romantique its particular character, florals that are confident in their presence, woods that provide clear support.
The evolution
The opening brings citrus brightness through bergamot and lemon, clean and direct in its arrival. Then the composition shifts. The florals, jasmine first with rose appearing alongside, begin to take up space with growing warmth. Neroli keeps the transition moving, smoothing the handoff between the early citrus and what follows. The heart of the fragrance establishes itself with the jasmine-rose combination. There is a quality to this heart that feels intimate rather than bold, feminine without tippling into fragility. The woody base arrives as sandalwood and cedar form the foundation. Patchouli adds a faint earthiness. Vetiver grounds everything. The drydown is soft and warm, lingering close to the skin. The full composition evolves from bright citrus through floral warmth to woody depth.
Cultural impact
Since its 2012 launch, Romantique has occupied a quiet corner of the fragrance world. The citrus-floral-woody structure gives it a classical feel that reads as enduring rather than tied to any particular moment in time. This is a fragrance that asks to be worn rather than announced. It fits naturally into a wardrobe of considered choices, appealing to those who value subtlety over spectacle.
