The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Angelic Touch came to life in 2024, composed by Sophie Truitard for the house Chaos. The fragrance holds a deliberate tension between its name and its composition, suggesting a grace that's not bestowed lightly but arrived at through rougher terrain. The brief, drawn from Chaos's own language, frames the scent as the delicate transition from darkness into light, a journey of self-discovery illuminated by the power of pure love. Truitard translated that arc into a perfume that opens in incense shadow and arrives, hours later, in amber warmth. The opening smolders with frankincense and davana, a resinous sweetness that feels almost like the aftermath of something burning.
The note pyramid does the heavy narrative lifting. Almond and davana open with a bruised-sweet quality, immediately undercut by frankincense's resinous chill. Rum in the heart keeps the sweetness tethered to something distilled, something with edge. Jasmine and rose bring the floral register, but the rum keeps them from turning pretty. Blackberry and forest fruit add a dark jam sweetness beneath, a gourmand undertow that gives the heart its weight. Then the base resets the whole composition with blond tobacco, patchouli, and amber, a trio that grounds everything in warmth and gravity.
The evolution
The opening belongs to frankincense and davana, a resinous-sweet haze that establishes the composition's darker register before anything else has a chance to speak. Almond rounds the edges so the smoke doesn't feel ascetic, lending a bruised sweetness that softens the incense's chill. Soon enough, rum and rose arrive together in the heart, the kind of accord that reads boozy and floral simultaneously, like dessert wine poured over petals. Blackberry and forest fruit add a dark jam sweetness beneath, a gourmand undertow that anchors the florals in something edible and slightly dangerous. Jasmine threads through, lifting the heart so it never turns syrupy or collapses into pure sugar. The rose carries a dense, almost jammy character, and the rum keeps it tethered to something distilled and sharp.
Cultural impact
Angelic Touch offers something rarer than immediate comfort. It suggests that softness can be earned through rougher materials, that grace arrives only after the incense and the rum have done their work. The fragrance appeals to wearers who want depth without sacrificing wearability, who appreciate the warmth of amber and tobacco but want them filtered through something more nuanced than pure gourmand sweetness. It occupies a space between commercial accessibility and the heavier, more confrontational territory of some niche perfumery, making it an entry point for those curious about the house's aesthetic.
