Orangerie Musicale arrived in 2018, and it marked a quiet departure for the Chabaud house. Where earlier releases may have leaned into denser, richer territory, this composition reaches for something brighter without abandoning warmth entirely. The title suggests a garden room where light filters through leaves and something soft plays in the background, and the juice inside feels like that room translated into scent. The citrus opening keeps it fresh and immediate, almost sparkling, with neroli and bergamot catching the light before the florals and resins step forward. Even at its brightest, though, the drydown refuses to leave warmth behind. There's a pastry-soft undertone that never quite fades, a quiet reminder that this isn't a typical eau de cologne.
What makes Orangerie Musicale interesting is how it threads citrus and pastry without choosing between them. The star anise at the top adds a faint liquorice coolness that keeps the neroli from reading as straightforward cologne, lending the opening a subtle spice that lingers beneath the brightness.
