The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Enchanting arrived in 2006, two years into the Céline Dion Parfums partnership with Coty. The brand had already released Celine and Belong, each a different mood, a different note story. Enchanting was the next chapter: richer, warmer, more defined. Perfumer James Krivda built it around a floral-fruity opening, a heart of gardenia and freesia, and an amber base that distinguished it from what came before. The name said it all, a fragrance meant to feel inviting rather than imposing, memorable without demanding attention.
The pyramid is straightforward: osmanthus and red berries on top, gardenia-diamond orchid-freesia in the heart, sandalwood-tonka bean-amber anchoring the base. What makes it work is the tonal consistency, the berries stay sweet but never screechy, the florals stay creamy rather than indolic, the base stays warm without tipping into heaviness. The tonka bean is the quiet workhorse here, lending sweetness that survives long past the opening. Osmanthus itself is unusual in mainstream fragrance, it brings apricot and leather simultaneously, a duality that gives the top notes more complexity than typical berry openings.
The evolution
First 20 minutes: red berries and osmanthus, bright and immediate. The sweetness is present but not syrupy, osmanthus cuts it with something mineral, almost tea-like. Then the hand-off: berries fade, gardenia takes the stage. Creamy, white, a little heady in the way good gardenia always is. Freesia adds air. Diamond orchid holds the middle without shouting. After 90 minutes, the florals begin to recede and the base asserts itself: sandalwood and amber, warm and smooth. Tonka bean sweetens the drydown without adding weight. The longevity is honest on most skin, sometimes more on clothing. The projection stays balanced throughout, never overwhelming. The drydown lingers closest to the skin, the kind of warmth someone notices only when they're standing near you.
Cultural impact
Enchanting occupies a particular corner of the celebrity fragrance world: warm, sincere, and widely considered one of the stronger entries in its category. Online discussions often frame it as a reliable everyday option, the kind of fragrance someone reaches for because it consistently delivers without surprises. It performs across cooler seasons and daytime settings, appealing to wearers who want warmth and approachability without heavy sillage.
