The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Bvlgari, founded in Rome in 1884, built its identity on jewelry craftsmanship and bold Italian glamour, values that extend naturally into fragrance. Veridia arrived in 2018 as part of the Le Gemmes collection, a line that translates the house's expertise in precious stones into scent. Alberto Morillas, a longtime collaborator, was tasked with capturing the vivid green of an emerald while honoring the brand's Italian elegance.
Bvlgari approaches fragrance the way it approaches jewelry, selecting materials for their rarity and combining them with Italian craftsmanship. In Veridia, every note has a purpose: galbanum provides the green sparkle that references the emerald, incense creates the smoky depth that gives the fragrance its character, and bourbon vanilla with dark chocolate ensures the drydown feels warm and luxurious. The combination might seem unusual, but it reflects how a gemstone holds multiple qualities at once, from cool surface reflection to warm inner depth.
The evolution
The fragrance begins with a cool, sparkling green burst that sets the tone for what follows. Galbanum and angelica create an immediate herbal crispness, while bergamot, orange, and cypress add brightness and structure. The heart introduces a different register entirely, where incense adds smoky depth and jasmine provides floral warmth, and black pepper contributes a whisper of spice. As the fragrance develops, the drydown takes over with bourbon vanilla and dark chocolate creating a warm, sweet embrace, while patchouli and amberwood add the grounding depth needed to make the finish feel luxurious and complete. The journey moves from sharp green clarity to smoky intimacy to sweet warmth, like watching an emerald catch light from different angles.
Cultural impact
Veridia taps into the Mediterranean tradition of blending citrus with aromatic herbs, a practice dating back to ancient Roman perfumery where bergamot and sage were prized for their invigorating qualities. Modern Italian artisans revived this heritage, pairing it with contemporary green accords to create a fragrance that feels both timeless and current. Its popularity in coastal cities reflects a cultural longing for breezy, sun‑kissed environments, while its subtle spice nods to the historic trade routes that once carried exotic botanicals across Europe.
