The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Brocard launched Золотая лихорадка, or Gold Rush, in 2013, a men's fragrance built on a green-spicy-woody structure that trades the brand's more decorative tendencies for something earthier. The name pulls from the imagery of nineteenth-century prospecting, the idea that what's buried is worth the digging. In a house known for narrative-driven compositions, this one is grounded in herbal aromatics and amber rather than fantasy or folklore.
The composition leans on galbanum and artemisia, two green materials that smell like crushed stems and resinous undergrowth. Pair them with lavender and rosemary, and the top becomes a cold-herbal accord, the kind you'd find in a classical fougère but tilted toward spice. Nutmeg and sage in the heart push toward warmth without losing the green thread. It is a structure that rewards patience, because the amber and oakmoss in the base take hours to fully emerge.
The evolution
The opening is sharp and clean, lavender bright against neroli's bitter edge, rosemary giving it a medicinal snap. The green character holds for a while, then slowly recedes as nutmeg starts to build underneath. Sage joins the nutmeg, and a dusty artemisia note arrives that feels like dried herbs in an apothecary drawer. There's a faint rose-metallic flicker from geranium that sits low in the composition, never quite rising to the surface. As the greens continue to fade, the composition shifts from herbal toward something warmer. Amber and oakmoss come through together, giving the base a resinous, slightly bitter weight that anchors everything below. Vetiver grounds it with smoke and earth, while sandalwood smooths the edges and softens the transition. Eventually the opening is gone entirely.
Cultural impact
Золотая лихорадка (Gold Rush) sits within a catalogue of woody spicy masculine compositions, a category that includes many aromatic, herbal, and resinous launches. The name evokes the idiom of gold fever, and the warm, amber-laced drydown that defines the composition reinforces that sense of something coveted and persistent. Within the brand's broader range, it belongs to a family of releases built around green-aromatic openings that give way to spiced, resinous bases, a structural template the house returns to often.
