The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
In 2011 Bottega Verde unveiled Violetta, a tribute to the humble violet that has long dotted the Tuscan hills surrounding the brand's Val d'Orcia home. Drawing on the house's herbal roots, the perfumer sought to capture the flower's green-fresh sparkle while honoring the brand's tradition of blending natural-inspired materials into modern compositions. The result is a fragrance that uses violet not merely as a theme but as the structural spine from opening through drydown.
The note selection reflects a philosophy of harmony rather than contrast, with violet appearing twice to create continuity across the fragrance's stages. Lemon and mandarin orange were chosen to amplify the flower's natural green freshness without overpowering it, while iris provides textural depth that elevates the violet beyond simple sweetness. The base uses musk and amber to ground the composition in warmth, ensuring that Violetta feels like a complete story rather than a collection of disconnected elements.
The evolution
The fragrance begins with a citrus spark that feels like sunlight cutting through morning mist, pairing lemon's crispness with mandarin's sweet brightness to energize the violet note before it fully emerges. As the citrus fades, the heart reveals a more personal side where violet petals rest against iris powder and rose softness, creating a floral bouquet that is both romantic and restrained. The drydown marks a shift toward warmth as musk wraps around the violet like a second skin, amber adds a honeyed glow, and tonka bean introduces a finish that is subtly sweet and endlessly wearble.
Cultural impact
Violetta quickly became a favorite among violet enthusiasts, often mentioned alongside Caron’s Aimez‑Moi for its greener, fresher take on the flower. Reviewers appreciate its affordable price point, noting that it delivers a genuine violet experience without the high‑end price tag. Its moderate sillage makes it suitable for both Intimate settings and daytime wear, cementing its reputation as a reliable, everyday floral that doesn’t overwhelm.
