The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Rich Pimento launched in 2019 as part of Bentley's Beyond collection, released exclusively through Harrods. The scent draws on the Cuban capital, named for the pimento, a fiery red chili pepper. Karine Dubreuil-Sereni composed the fragrance, building around that botanical anchor. Grapefruit and Italian bergamot set the opening, bright and citrusy, before rhubarb adds a tart edge. The combination of sparkling citrus and tangy fruit creates an unexpected lead-in for a scent built around chili heat, almost disarming you before the spice arrives. There's a green sharpness from the grapefruit that cuts through the sweetness of the rhubarb, and the bergamot adds a faintly floral lift that keeps the top from feeling too sharp or aggressive.
What makes Rich Pimento unusual is the chili placement. Red pimento sits in the heart, flanked by black and pink pepper, bourbon geranium, and frankincense. The heat arrives as something vegetal, almost culinary, in a way that feels grounded and specific rather than abstract. The frankincense tempers it, pulling the composition toward something meditative rather than aggressive, and its resinous coolness wraps around the chili like a counterbalance, softening the edges without dulling the warmth.
The evolution
The scent opens with a bright lift of grapefruit and Italian bergamot twisted with tart rhubarb, a sharp citrus overture that catches attention. Rhubarb's green sourness pushes back against the bergamot's polished shine. From there the composition pivots into spiced territory, where black pepper, pink pepper, and a thread of frankincense build density. Bourbon geranium bridges the citrus into something more herbaceous and grown. The chili then arrives, not screaming but smoldering, and reddens the entire composition into a warm, peppery heat. As the hours pass, Indonesian patchouli and cedar ground the fragrance, and tonka bean wraps the drydown in a soft, ambery sweetness. The journey ends grounded, woody, and warm.
Cultural impact
Rich Pimento sits within Bentley's Beyond collection, a line that explores distinctive compositions under the Bentley umbrella. Its exclusive Harrods launch placed it within reach of a specific audience, one that values limited distribution and unconventional scent structures. The chili-led composition gives it an identity that sets it apart from more conventional offerings, anchoring warmth in a single, unusual botanical rather than blending into familiar territory. The interplay between pimento, frankincense, and patchouli creates a drydown that feels intentional and cohesive, rewarding close attention over repeated wears.
