The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
In 2015, Avon celebrated thirty years of Imari. The edition was an oriental-floral built around juicy blackberry, rose absolute, and vanilla extract, framed as a fragrance about passion and intensity. The blackberry note opens with a tart, slightly green quality that immediately sets this apart from sweeter interpretations. The rose absolute brings a lush, romantic warmth that doesn't shy away from boldness, while the vanilla extract grounds everything with a creamy, slightly sweet finish. This is a fragrance that captures the spirit of celebration, blending fruit-forward brightness with deep floral richness.
The blackberry note is the star of the opening. Unlike many fruity-florals that tend toward sugary sweetness, this one leads with a distinctly tart, juicy blackberry that makes its presence known. The berry doesn't arrive as a brief accent or afterthought. As the top notes settle, florals take their turn. Rose absolute and ylang-ylang enter the composition, adding their depth and richness without trying to mask the fruit that came before. The base reveals itself gradually, offering warmth and a lingering sweetness that stays close to the skin.
The evolution
The opening is tart and bright. Blackberry asserts itself immediately, with green apple and mandarin keeping the citrus crisp. The tartness holds, creating a bold entrance. Then the heart arrives, the rose absolute is opulent, not delicate, and the ylang-ylang adds a creamy, tropical depth. Jasmine warms everything underneath. By this point, the base notes are already beginning to peek through. The drydown is where it becomes itself. Vanilla and red amber wrap around the patchouli, and the combination holds. This is the phase that lasts. The next morning, there's still something sweet and warm on the skin.
Cultural impact
The Imari line was originally launched in 1985. Over the following three decades, the collection expanded with several reinterpretations. Imari Seduction arrived in 2007, Imari Mystique in 2011, and Imari Blossom in 2013. Each of these flankers offered its own take on the core Imari identity. The 2015 Elixir edition marked the 30th anniversary of the line with an intensified fruity-blackberry character, representing a new chapter in the collection's ongoing story. This anniversary edition pays tribute to the original while carving out its own distinct place within the Imari family.
