The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Marion Costero and Olivier Glotin constructed Far Away Beyond in 2021 as a concentrated evolution within Avon's longstanding Far Away lineage. The perfumers were tasked with a clear directive: push further. The original Far Away had built its reputation on accessible warmth, and Costero and Glotin chose to amplify that signature while adding sophistication. Bourbon Vanilla became the vehicle for that ambition, a material known for its depth and lasting power when used at concentration. The result is a parfum-strength fragrance that carries itself with more conviction than its flanker predecessors.
The choice of Pear for the opening is deliberate: it provides sweetness without the cloying quality that plagues many mass-market fragrances. Jasmine in the heart serves as a bridge, its familiar floral character grounding the composition in something recognizable before Bourbon Vanilla introduces a more sophisticated payoff. The philosophy here is about progression: each phase should feel like a natural consequence of the last. Pairing these materials required balancing brightness against warmth, and the result avoids both the fleeting nature of many EDT concentrations and the heaviness that too much Bourbon Vanilla can produce. This is a fragrance designed to be worn, not merely admired.
The evolution
The narrative arc of Far Away Beyond moves deliberately from lightness to warmth. Pear initiates the story with a clean, modern brightness that immediately distinguishes this fragrance from sweeter, heavier alternatives. As the top notes settle, Jasmine takes its place as the heart, shifting the composition from fruit-forward to floral without losing the sweetness established at the opening. Finally, Bourbon Vanilla assumes control in the drydown, wrapping the wearer in a warm, slightly resinous embrace that can last well into the next day on fabric. This three-act structure gives wearers variety within a single wearing while maintaining a throughline of accessibility and comfort.
Cultural impact
Far Away Beyond occupies an interesting space: accessible luxury without the performance anxiety. It performs well enough to satisfy experienced fragrance wearers while remaining approachable enough for someone building their first serious collection. The upcycled vanilla adds a layer of intentionality, sustainability that doesn't compromise the scent itself. In a category crowded with vanilla-forward fragrances, this one stands apart through restraint and balance rather than sheer intensity.
